Ways to help stop bullying!
October is Bullying Prevention Month!
Together We Can Create a Kinder World! October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Did you know that nationally, 1 in 5 students report being bullied? SCSD wishes to change those statistics and we are going to start with our own schools first! WRMS and SHS take reports of bullying seriously and we are doing many things to prevent and stop bullying. Everyday we are working towards building a positive school culture where students feel safe, valued, and have a trusted adult they can go to. We have also implemented a social skills curriculum, in partnership with One Prevention Alliance. Students in the middle schools have had two years of this curriculum and we will add it to the high school's Fitness/Health class this year. We also partner with Skamania County Domestic Violence who supports our students through the Teen Leadership Club. This club focuses on empowering students to take a role in helping build positive relationships in school and recognizing and taking action when peers are exhibiting bulling type behaviors. When principals learn that a student is being bullied, we work towards a resolution of safety for the students. Sometimes this may included deeper social skill development, mediation, safety plans, or mediation.
